How to Secure Your Items in a Gift Basket

Putting together the perfect gift basket is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. The last thing you want is for your items to fall out before you can get the basket wrapped. Knowing how to secure your items in a gift basket can save you a lot of hassle and also ensure that your gift looks its best.

  1. First: Make your base

Most gift basket items do not reach all the way down to the bottom of the basket, especially if you have chosen a large one. You can easily create your own base by crumpling up or shredding newspaper or craft paper. Just place the paper into the bottom of the basket to create some height and a cushion for your items. For extra support, cut out a piece of thin cardboard and place it on top of the crumpled paper.

  2. Second: Start adding your items

Add your items to the cardboard piece and attach them with a small glue dot. You can either use tacky glue or scrapbooking style glue dots that are preformed and sticky. A glue gun also works great for this step. As you place each item onto the container, make sure to push down firmly so that it adheres. You can also glue your items together for added stability, but make sure that you cannot see the glue.

  3. Third: Tying the basket together

Once your items are all in the basket you should add a layer of shredded tissue paper to cover up the cardboard and crumpled paper. You can then use cellophane or shrink wrap to place around the basket to secure everything. Tie the cellophane with a bow made out of beautiful ribbon for a nice finishing touch.
